Huge congratulations are in order for FLY OZ Club’s very own, Mark Lewis, on passing his checkride! π After countless hours of studying and dedication, Mark says the feeling of finally becoming a pilot is one of “enormous relief” and pure excitement for the freedom that lies ahead.
Mark’s journey into the clouds was sparked by a desire for a fresh challenge. After years in his current career and seeing his friends share their own incredible aviation experiences, he decided it was time to answer the call of the skies. From the “rush” of his very first solo flight to earning his license today, he’s been crushing his goals! βοΈπͺ
When he’s not in the cockpit, you can find Mark: π΄βοΈ Mountain biking (he was on his college cycling team!) π» Playing the double bass or trumpet π Cruising in his ‘63 VW Beetle (the same car he learned to drive in!)
What’s next for Mark? He’s already looking toward his next ratings with a dream of making a career pivot to the airlines. π His bucket list trip? A flight up the West Coast through California, Oregon, and Washington, all the way into Canada—stopping for biking and great food along the way!
Mark, we are so proud to have been part of your journey. We can’t wait to see where your new wings take you! π€οΈπ
Blue skies and tailwinds, Mark! π₯

Join us for a truly unforgettable evening as Lt. Col. Everett DeWolfe (Ret.), Master Navigator on Air Force One during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, shares his story. This is your chance to hear directly from the cockpit about the chaos, critical decisions, and high-stakes maneuvering required to keep the President of the United States safe and engaged on one of the most consequential days in American history.
What You’ll Hear
Colonel DeWolfe will provide a chilling, behind-the-scenes look at the flight deck experience, including:
-Receiving word that Air Force One was potentially the next target.
-Dealing with hostile airliners and being intercepted by Air Force Fighters.
-The fighters engaging an unidentified threat aircraft.
-The nearly constant rerouting to ensure presidential safety.
A decorated retired Air Force Officer, Colonel DeWolfe spent 12 years on the crew of Air Force One, flying Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Before that, he flew Vice Presidents (including George H. W. Bush and Al Gore) and Secretaries of State (including Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright), and even flew the famous “Freedom One” mission returning American POWs after the first Gulf War. His experience is unmatched!
Food & Drink
Come early to enjoy the atmosphere! We’ll have appetizers available while they last and the Louise Cafe Bar will be open for drink purchases.

A round of applause ππ» for FLY OZ Club Member Adam Shallenberg, who just earned his tailwheel endorsement! βοΈ This achievement is extra special because we’ve loved seeing his proud father, David, at the airfield, capturing Adam’s entire taildragger journey through his lens.
We caught up with Adam to ask him about this milestone, and his answers are pure inspiration!
On feeling great about the accomplishment: “I feel like a much safer pilot with this endorsement,” Adam shared. “I can’t recommend my instructor, Phillip, enough. The training not only taught me the fundamentals but also gave me the chance to explore all the local grass runways.”
On his next flying adventure: Adam’s first flights in the Super Cub are reserved for two very special passengers: his daughter and son! They’re headed for a fly-out camping trip to Trigger Gap, a trip they’ve been asking about after every one of Adam’s training flights.
On the legacy of flight: Adam’s love for aviation started early, thanks to his dad and remote-control planes. His first-ever flight was in a J3 Cub at just 8 years old. “I can remember leaning out of the open door with my camera to get a good picture of my house and school,” he recalls. Adam received his pilot’s license 3 years ago and trained in the Austin, Texas area. He vividly remembers doing power-on stalls (poorly) on a 105F July day during a bumpy convective SIGMET and that was the only time he ever thought “I don’t want to be flying an airplane right now”.
On his favorite plane: While the J3 Cub and A-10 Warthog were childhood favorites, Adam is a thankful fan of the 180HP Super Cub today due to being an adult that is 6’5”. His wish? “I think they should all be Cub yellow with a lightning bolt!”
Congratulations, Adam! We can’t wait to see what adventures you and your family embark on in the Super Cub!
