Congratulations to FLY OZ Flying Club member William Jordan Brockway for passing his IFR check ride! Jordan is a urologist that just moved to the NWA area to begin working at Mercy. He grew up in Beebe, Arkansas, and loves spending time with his family. He wanted to learn to fly in order to travel and spend more time with his family. Jordan did not have time to learn during his surgical training but made time after he finished. He’s found there to be a lot of crossover between learning to operate and learning to fly. Jordan did his PPL training at Joint Base Kelly in San Antonio and would often time be in the pattern with C-5s.
Jordan said the IFR lessons were challenging, yet enjoyable. One of his favorite flying memories so far is being in IMC for 45 minutes practicing maneuvers and then shooting the ILS back to Joint Base Kelly in San Antonio. When he popped out of the clouds at 500’ AGL for the first time and saw the runway, he was VERY thankful to finally see the ground again to be reassured that everything was working out as it was supposed to. He is excited to be an instrument rated pilot now and would love to fly to Alaska someday! Jordan enjoys duck hunting, wine tasting, fishing, and spending time with his lovely co-pilot for life, his wife Katelyn. We are glad to have Jordan and his family in Northwest Arkansas and look forward to seeing them in the skies having fun!

Would you like your office chair to alternate between a cockpit, a camp chair at a cookout on a grass airstrip, an air show booth, and a world-class flying club lounge? Then we have the perfect job for you!
We are hiring for a FLY OZ Club Attendant that is ready to serve and have fun while at work! If you are ready for your career to take flight, then please apply to the link in our bio and below.

Tee it high, let it fly - it’s golfing time!
The FLY OZ Flying Birdies Golf League flew to Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, AR, for their first tourney of 2025! They had a great time chasing birdies, breaking pars, and making divots look real good! The golfing buddies started a tradition of signing a flag at each golf course they visit and even bought a cute teddy bear to carry around the course! The only thing missing for their next monthly golf course flyout is... YOU joining them! Why stress over work when you could be stressing over golf with the Flying Birdies?

Congratulations to FLY OZ Flying Club Member John Allis for passing his IFR check ride! Being an instrument-rated pilot was a goal for John since the beginning. Initially John planned on stopping after he got his IFR rating. He has been nudged by his friends, CFIs, and his DPE to go after a commercial license, so he has decided to incorporate flying into his business. John recently earned his commercial remote pilots license, and he plans to incorporate drones into his business as well! For the record, he also plans to finish his tailwheel endorsement due to the persistence of CFI Phillip Sneed!
For John, flying with his family is at the heart of why he became a pilot. They enjoy visiting 7M3, the Wergner Quartz Mine, so that his daughters can mine quartz all day to their heart’s content! The Allis family are huge martial arts fans so they plan to fly to a few Kuk Sool Won tournaments this year! They also take biweekly family flights to PLK to ride rollercoasters at Silver Dollar City! John finds a lot of joy in flying friends and family around to different places!
When John was asked what the most surprising thing has been to learn during his aviation journey he responded, “Honestly, the flying community. I became a pilot because I love aviation. I had absolutely no idea what an amazing community of aviators and aviation enthusiasts awaited me. Joining the FLY OZ Club was pivotal in that. The amazing community I unknowingly joined has been nothing but spectacular to myself and my family. I’ve had nothing but amazing times and endless laughs with my CFIs and my DPE.” John would love to thank Taylor Phillips, Kyle Burrows, Joshua Jones, Phillip Sneed, and Ethan Rushing because learning has been super easy with these folks. John said that he would not trade their memories together for anything and is very thankful for always reminding him to use more right rudder.

From a 7-year-old paper plane pilot to a current FLY OZ Club flying member, Adam Shallenberg remembers his first airplane flight in a yellow J3 Cub! Adam was itching to finally learn how to fly the same aircraft that made him interested in flight this past week. He did what any self-respecting 80s kid would do, and he first found the same pair of sunglasses from his first ride to set the right vibe. Then, he hopped in the club’s yellow Supercub, Whiskey Kilo with CFI Phillip Sneed and flew right into his childhood fantasy, but this time... as the pilot! We love providing fun life experiences for our club members! Life is short so throw on the 😎, strap in the plane and start having more adventures like Adam!

Congratulations to FLY OZ Club member Rohan Antony for passing his instrument check ride! Not only did Rohan become an instrument rated pilot, but he’ll also graduate from the University of Arkansas in just a few weeks! To celebrate he is planning to take his mom on a scenic flight around Northwest Arkansas! Next up in his aviation journey is tailwheel training with CFI Phillip Sneed. You can see from the photo it’s already off to an exciting start!
Rohan felt incredibly lucky with his instrument training- almost all of it was either at night or in actual IMC conditions. Talk about getting thrown into the deep end! He was genuinely scared and disoriented the first time he entered the clouds. He felt challenged by losing all visual references and learning to trust his senses. Overcoming the initial fear and learning to trust his instruments was tough, but he is thankful for his great instructor, Alex Ranson. He is also thankful for CFIs Emma Kisic, Michael Bennett, Ethan Rushing, and Noah Wright for their excellent instruction and support along the way. He is also very thankful to DPE Chip Gibbons for making the check ride a smooth experience.
When asked about his IFR training, Rohan said, “I’ve had a few incredible experiences shooting approaches to minimums in actual IMC and seeing the approach lights emerge from the clouds like a welcome sign back to Earth. What a feeling!”
We are so proud of you Rohan and wish you nothing but success in all the things you go after in this life! We know your mom will enjoy celebrating her son’s accomplishments together in the sky real soon!

Congratulations to FLY OZ Flying Club member Skylar Ballay for becoming a private pilot! The moment his examiner said, “You’re a pilot,” Skylar felt a rush of relief, excitement, and pride. All the training, studying, and early mornings were worth it.
Skylar has always been fascinated by airplanes- watching them as a kid, then getting hooked on the flight simulator. The Cessna 172 has his heart, but his dream jets are the 787 and A350. He is currently working on his instrument rating, with goals to earn his commercial license and eventually become an airline pilot. Becoming a CFI is also in the cards as he continues his aviation journey.
When Skylar is not in the air, he is at the gym, on the pickleball court, or out taking photos of airplanes. He also has his commercial drone license and plans to get into real estate photography.
When asked what his best flying memory so far has been, he answered, “My first solo- just me and the airplane. Pure freedom.” We are very proud of Skylar! Also, he has an amazing Instagram page full of his aviation and travel adventures, so be sure to follow him @skylarflyz to follow his journey!

We hope everyone had a reel fun time at the Third Annual Fly Oz Fishing Tourney this year!
It was fun day of catching big catfish and good vibes, telling tale tales, singing songs about fishing, pedaling planes, casting away our worries, snacking on gold fish, gummy worms and hot dogs, all while watching planes fly over Lake Bentonville!

Thank you to @ar_game_and_fish for stocking the lake with fish! Thank you to @louise_thadenfield and @ohsnap_icecream for providing yummy snacks!
